Mayor, community members help families without access to healthy food – ActionNewsJax.com

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Jacksonville’s mayor and community members came with each other Sunday to offer meals choices for families that could have actually a difficult time obtaining healthy and balanced foods.

The city’s initial “Farm to Faith” event was hosted by Mayor Lenny Curry.

The event took put at Bethel Church, where Curry handed out meals and talked along with large crowds of people.

It aimed to position healthy and balanced meals choices in to the hands of people that live in locations where healthy, affordable meals is difficult to obtain.

These locations are referred to as meals deserts.

“There are a variety of neighborhoods and ZIP codes in Jacksonville that don’t have actually access to fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Curry. “Nourishment is so essential if you’re seeing be a prosperous city, a benign city.”

Valerie Footman and her niece came after their church service.

Footman got pleasant potatoes, cucumbers and others vegetables she said she needed.

“It’s a lot needed. It’s a fantastic thing for our community. people that don’t have actually transportation to get hold of out,” said Footman.

The meals came from White Harvest Farms, a subsidiary of the Clara White Mission.

Lasonia Gibson and her family said the event shows simply exactly how essential it is to be healthy.

Healthy recipes were distributed by the city’s UF Extension office to make sure people understand exactly how to cook the food.

Footman and Gibson were simply two of several families that got healthy and balanced meals to begin their week.
