Kim Kardashian knew that if she wanted to lose weight quickly she’d need some help. So she enlisted Colette Heimowitz, vice president of Nutrition Communication & Education at Atkins Nutritionals.
Recently, Hollywood Take caught up with Heimowitz to find out Kim’s diet secrets. And the Atkins expert gave us tons of tips!
“Kim started eating the low carb way after she gave birth to her first and second child,” Heimowitz told us. “This way of eating helped her lose the 60 pounds from her first pregnancy and is currently helping her reach her weight loss goals from her second pregnancy.”
So what’s allowed and what’s off limits? “Consuming adequate protein from fish, poultry, lean mean, healthy fats from avocado, olive oil, nuts, and high-fiber carbohydrates from lots of vegetables, and low-glycemic fruits such as berries, as well as some dairy from Greek yogurt and cheese meets all of her nutritional needs for recovery, as well as breastfeeding,” Heimowitz explained.
And despite what some critics might think, Kim has continued to eat in a healthy way. “She consumes 1,500 to 1,800 calories daily to meet her calorie requirements, which keeps her satisfied and fortified. Protein, vegetables, and healthy fats are easy to prepare at home and easy to eat out in restaurants, which fits into any busy lifestyle.” Heimowitz recommends going low-carb to help burn fat stored in the body.
“Consuming high-fiber carbohydrates, healthy fats, and an optimal protein intake allows the body to be fortified with the nutrients it needs, and it keeps appetite in control,” she told us.
And Kim’s diet is certainly working. Saint’s mom recently took to her blog to gush about the Atkins Diet. “Wanting more things to start fitting — 42 lbs. down and 28 to go!” she wrote in a post on March 21, adding, “Wearing my old workout clothes! They fit again.”
