It’s a Friday lunchtime and there’s a queue snaking outside The Detox Shack, in Market Street, Leicester. It strikes us that this is a rare sight nowadays, isn’t it? Individuals queuing for their lunch. Like, properly queuing, out the door, although it’s a bit nippy, and passing menus down the row to those behind.
Rewind 10, twenty years ago and this type of thing was the norm. (Have actually we ever stated our weekend cob shop job? We have? Oh. We’ll sustain it short, then, however suffice to say, queues were the norm; partly due to the fact that our big breakfasts were THE BEST, and partly, we’ll admit, due to the fact that there weren’t as several areas to get hold of your sarnies spine in the ’90s).
Now, they are blinkin’ everywhere. And not simply cob shops however lovely independent coffee shops and street meals areas and cafes dedicated solely to jacket potatoes. Which is brilliant, obviously. Choice is good. Eliminating queues is good. Every one of this means is that as soon as do we see a queue, we understand there should be a great necessity for it. In this case, it’s Detox Shack.
Before we tell you concerning Detox Shack (don’t worry, we’ll get hold of there in the end), we need to point out that it doesn’t take considerably to develop a queue here. It’s tiny. however nevertheless, it’s a queue, a big queue, the likes of which we’ve not seen in a while.
Which means it should be good. Queue = good.
Got that? Good.
Right. The Detox Shack, then. It’s a brand-new foodie place in Market Street, and, as the name suggests, it’s Every one of concerning meals that is great for you. So believe spinach and avocado and quinoa (which we’ve finally learned exactly how to pronounce: keen-wa. We think. You’re welcome) and salmon and smoothies and coconut water and big boxes of salad.
They Have actually one of those Ninja Bullet-type points (obvs), which is whipping up some sort of orange and beetroot drink – Love a healthy and balanced tequila sunrise – as we wait in line.
We opt for a houmous and halloumi and quinoa/ keen-wa salad box for £4. It’s massive. Not only does it fill us up until tea, it makes us feel healthy and balanced and virtuous, too. We take ours away (these pages concerning shopping aren’t going to write themselves), however there is a seating location upstairs, if you’ve got time to dine in.
If you’re still famished after your big salad box, you can easily even handle yourselves to a vegan and gluten-free dessert, gained by Leicester brand V:Gd.
Sound good? We’ll see you in the queue.
