KOTA KINABALU: Numerous young ladies especially teenagers along with long hair are willing to spend time and effort to groom their crowning glory and make sure it stays healthy, shiny and beautiful.

For those whose hair grows slower than average, it is even more difficult to part or even trim their long hair.

According to a study, the standard hair growth rate of Asian females is about six inches per year. However, some 300 students of the Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School here did not think twice when they were approached by a non-governmental organisation – Stellavingze Worldwide & StarLadies Chance – to donate their hair to help cancer patients regain their confidence.

A student Chong Wei Kee who has actually been keeping her hair waist length for two years said she was touched by the sharing given by founder of Stellavingze, Datuk Stella Chin, during the Hair for Chance function at their school on Monday.

“I love my hair a lot and since it took ages for my hair to grow to this length, I treasure it more but to know that patients deal along with hair loss everyday and losing their confidence while battling cancer is really sad,” she said.

“At that moment, I knew I had to donate my hair because it still can grow,” she added.

The students were given a brand-new haircut by some 20 hairstylists and brought residence a certificate after donating their hair.

Earlier in the event, Chin said the Hair for Chance campaign was aimed at encouraging students to contribute what they can to help those in need.

“We are glad that the students here are both excited and proud as they donate their hair knowing that these contributions will give brand-new Chance for the cancer patients,” she said.

This is likewise a symbol of Chance and encouragement from the students to cancer patients, asking them to stay strong, she added.

Chin said as a member of the community, everyone has actually the responsibility to give back to the society in need as well as build a better environment surrounded along with care and love.
