The Directors Cut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice called the “Ulimate Edition” from Zack Snyder dropped digitally for VOD, with the Blu-ray coming out later in July – the 19th to be exact. Schnepp, Frosty, El Mayimbe and Dennis Tzeng got a chance to see the film in the theater at the AMC 16 Prime this past Monday and were able to review it for Collider. Now, the panel breaks it down: what they liked, what they didn’t like, and whether or not the movie – the version Zack Snyder’s wanted in theatres – is better than the theatrical cut.

Minor Mutations:

Flashback – The Phantom (1996)

Slam Evil!!! This action adventure movie was another major superhero flop when it came out in 1996. Of course we’re talking The Phantom starring Billy Zane as Kit Walker, AKA the crime fighter known to everyone as the Phantom! This film is based on the comic strip by Lee Falk, and is set in 1938, where we travel from New York City to the Bengalla Island, home to the magical Skull Cave. The Phantom is a passed down role of protector of the magical skull ring and servant of the island called “The Ghost who walks” or “the Phantom.” We also get Treat Williams and a bunch of bad dudes looking for the three glowing green skulls which will give all kinds of cool laser powers. With a cost of $45 million, and a domestic pull of $17 million, this Phantom quickly faded away.

Spotlight: Space Ghost

This week’s spotlight is on Space Ghost, a cartoon character created by Hanna Barbera and designed by the incredible Alex Toth. The series ran in 1955 for 42 episodes, with sidekicks Jan, Jace, and their pet monkey Blip. Many decades later, he was completely rebooted as a talk show host on a surreal comedy series called Space Ghost Coast to Coast on Cartoon Network in 1994 and lasted roughly eight seasons; wherein he spoke with real celebrity guests and made fun of them, awkwardly interacting with his sidekicks Zorak and Moltar. Should this series come back as a TV Show again, either as live action or animated? Or can Space Ghost make the transition to a feature film?
