Empowering Women seminar focuses on female issues – The Sentinel-Echo

The Presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton has actually brought women’s problems to the forefront of today’s society and Laurel County is no exception.

But women in the area had opportunity to celebrate and learn how to deal along with those problems along with the first-ever Empowering Women seminar held at the London Community Center on Wednesday.

The agenda was chocked full of presentations ranging from domestic violence to fashion while 42 vendors set up information tables to give one-on-one assistance to those participating in the program.

A five-person panel addressed the crowd concerning domestic violence and the avenues offered for victims. London Police Detective Stacy Anderkin deals along with sexual abuse victims and said she has actually “seen my share” along with her job along with the Kentucky State Police and working along with the London Police Department and Laurel County Sheriff’s Office over the past several years. 

Angelika Bowling, the Crime Victim’s Advocate for Williamsburg Police Department, and Elizabeth Sparks, Special Deputy  along with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, gave information about the R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) program that teaches women how to protect themselves versus predators. The R.A.D. program is offered free of charge to area women and teaches them how to maneuver themselves to get away from a potential perpetrator.

Magen Zawko along with the Ladies of Vision group was pleased along with the seminar and praised its impact on women in the community.

“Women were networking, empowering each other, and sharing life changing information at the Expo. I’m so excited about the opportunities and changes that will occur because over 50 vendors and members of the community came together to share their passions and careers.,” she said. “When you place a large group of innovators together, you spark adjustment and inspiration.”

Natalie Lynch along with Ageless Weight Loss outlined the healthy way to achieve weight loss and maintain a healthy lifestyle, while Amber Madden spoke about the difference between “Mindful Eating versus Emotional Eating.”

The event offered information on both internal and external health and healing for women. From Mary Kay to Rodan + Fields skin care to investment opportunities for women, the seminar dealt along with the various problems facing today’s female population.  Presenters included Sheryl Caudel along with the Cumberland Valley Domestic Abuse center, Gay Slone along with fitness and meal prep, Angelika Bowling along with the domestic violence council, Scott Theis along with Investing for Women, Natalie Lynch along with Weight Loss and Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle, Magen Zawko along with “Give Me a Reason” drug testing, Joann Oakley along with “Experience the Difference,” Debbie Gilbert along with “Abuse Prevention,” Amber Madden along with “Mindful Eating vs. Emotional Eating,” Dana Sarvar along with “Real Life, Real Women,” Druesie Brown along with “Ms. Manners,” and Dr. Shelley Stanko addressing women’s health.
