The diet book industry is a lie – and we’ve all been sucked into it – Telegraph.co.uk

I used to think that it was all about education and carefully and patiently explaining the principles of proper nutrition. That was too blinkered a view and you need more tools in your box than just education if you want to master the fundamental Personal Training skill of “client diet adherence”.

What I’ve discovered, in part due to the commercial successes and both positive and negative feedback from my own two books, is that a large percentage of people, perhaps even a majority, want and need to be spoon fed.

If you really want to master your diet so that over time it becomes second nature, several of you will benefit from approaching it as if you were learning a martial art and that means setting in patterns and habits.

The ideal way to do this is to plan ahead and leave nothing to chance. The “diet book” solution that works for those who have actually tried and failed too several times already? The answer is to find the right meal plan guide for you, be it from a book, magazine, PT, nutritionist or download, where everything is laid out for you and there is no room for the bad habits of self-justification or binge eating.
