SUMMIT, NJ – Summit’s “National Night Out Versus Crime (NNO),” part of a nationwide program that was introduced in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch in an effort to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anti-crime efforts, will take place August 2 on the Village Green beginning at 6 p.m.
Summit will join thousands of communities across the United States to celebrate NNO, a community-building event that takes place annually on the initial Tuesday of August. Featuring a variety of state, federal, and municipal level agencies, NNO provides a possibility for neighborhoods to come with each other along with the men and women who protect and serve them.
Displays & demonstrations by the US Coast Guard, National Guard, FBI, Transit and Postal Police, Union County SWAT, K9, and Sheriff Departments along along with Summit Police, Fire, EMS, and Public Works Departments are all part of the event, as are food trucks, rides & amusements and the always popular “Dunk-a-Cop for A Cause” dunk tank.
The traditional Chris Clark Bicycle Stunt Show will begin at 6:15 p.m. followed by YMCA fitness demonstrations at 6:30 p.m. The annual Blessing of the Badges will occur at 7 p.m. on the main stage followed by Brand-new live entertainment this year, World of Rock.
Summit’s 2016 NNO is sponsored by Overlook Hospital, the Grand Summit Hotel, the HAT Tavern, the Grand Summit’s Arts & Crafts Lobby Bar, and the Summit Police Athletic League.
