GRANITE CITY — Darin Chiropractic, formerly at 2339 Pontoon Road, has actually relocated to 2861 Madison Ave.
The practice officially opened the doors of its brand-new Granite City location on May 18. Along with the brand-new office, Dr. Christina Darin aims to help even more patients while also making a difference in the community.
Darin said the brand-new space is more accommodating to both her patients and her staff than her previous location.
“I needed bigger and better from where I was at,” she said. “I had a small, 1,000- to 1,100-square-foot building and obviously this space was available for rent so (it’s) a good location. It’s right around (the corner) from the high school, which we’ll see a lot of patients from the school, so that’s good. There’s plenty of parking, plenty of visibility — it’s a good location.”
Along Along with the traditional chiropractic services offered, Darin said her practice offers individualized treatment plans to better suit the needs of each patient, among other programs.
“Obviously we offer chiropractic services; we also offer physical therapy services, we offer massage, we offer weight loss, we offer laser treatments … we do customized treatment plans so their issues are individual,” she said. “We make sure we actually make their treatment plans for them, nothing cookie cutter. We do onsite X-ray, and we actually just started offering yoga.”
Inspired by her own childhood chiropractic care as a child, Darin said she has actually learned from past physicians’ mistakes and has actually applied those lessons to her own practice.
“I was really good at wrecking cars as a kid,” she said. “At about 17, I started having problems between my shoulder blades and decided I would certainly go to the medical doctor because that is what you’re supposed to do. They took some X-rays and told me nothing was wrong, but here are some painkillers and muscle relaxers. I went to a chiropractor and absolutely hated it. I just felt like he didn’t listen to me at all, like I didn’t know what I was talking about. But you know, when you hurt, you hurt, whether you’re 17 or not.”
Darin said chiropractic medicine eventually helped “without actually taking medication and without having surgery.”
“You can actually tell people what’s wrong when everyone else tells you there is nothing wrong,” she said.
Darin said her practice treats patients from various profession backgrounds. She also hopes to attract more children and pregnant women in the future.
“We see a lot of teachers and blue collar workers, whether it be people from the mill, people in the trades, labor bricklayers, operators, people along those lines,” she said. “We actually see quite a few nurses as well.
“We’re looking to attract more children. Kids play a lot of sports. We actually adjust from the time people are born until the time that they die. Kids learning to walk fall all the time; kids learning to ride a bike fall all the time. If an adult falls, they normally come in to get checked out, so why not their kid?”
With limited competition in the area, Darin said her business will surely stand out to patients, given the close-knit environment of the community.
“I think the biggest thing that sets us apart from other offices is we have actually a very fun, friendly environment,” she said. “Everybody is laughing; they are having a good time. A lot of times people come in Along with pain, and it’s not the most fun place to be. Once they are here, it’s kind of like Cheers; they get to know people, they get to laugh and have actually a good time.”
Darin said her profession has actually been nothing but rewarding, and she looks forward to seeing what the future of her business has actually in store.
“When you’ve got someone who can barely walk in the door, and then they’re crabby because they are in pain, you can just see that change,” she said. “When they are feeling better, not just physically, but attitude (as well), you actually get to see who that person is and who they really have actually become when they are not in pain.
“It’s awesome when you are getting people better; it’s a rewarding field.”
