A Rockland woman is facing charges after police say her 3-year-old son was found lying in a drainage ditch with no one around last week.
Police received a call Saturday night from a neighbor who found the child.
The boy was unable to tell an officer where he lived, only that he had been watching Scooby Doo at home, police said.
The officer noticed the child had pink nail polish on several areas of his skin.
The neighbor said he tried to find the child’s mother at two different apartment complexes with no luck.
However, police said one apartment’s front door was wide open, Scooby Doo was playing on the TV inside. The officer saw pink nail polish on the floor.
When the officer could not get anyone to respond to his knocking, he went inside and found the boy’s mother, Mandy Dennison, 27, sleeping on a mattress in the living room, police said.
After several attempts the officer woke up Dennison who did not know where her son was, according to police.
The officer said Dennison appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
Police said Dennison was in possession of a drug not prescribed to her.
Dennison was arrested and taken to the Knox County Jail, and the boy’s grandmother picked him up.
Police said the next night an officer conducted a bail check on Dennison and found her in possession of another medication she did not have a prescription for.
She was arrested for a second time and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, and violating conditions of release.
