Holiday beauty prep: your seven day guide to the best treatments to have before hitting the beach – Telegraph.co.uk

Once smoothed down, the skin should be soaked along with moisture. ‘Do bear in mind that the skin of the feet is 12 times thicker than that of the rest of the body – a body lotion just will not work,’ she adds, explaining why she developed her Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion, which absorbs and moisturises immediately.

As for the paint job, a pedicure always lasts longer than a manicure, so a few days before will be fine – maybe pick a day without a rainstorm.

One week before – get your hair cut

Three days to a week before your trip is the time to get your hair done. ‘Hair colour is far better after one shampoo,’ says Ellie Hunt, senior colourist at Daniel Galvin. ‘I would certainly always recommend a cut before you go because this will help get your hair in top condition. The amount of sun exposure and time spent in the pool or sea will determine whether you will need another on your return.’

If you are going to be spending swathes of time in the sunshine (hopefully), it’s important to protect your colour. ‘Use a conditioner in your hair if you are going to be getting it wet,’ says Hunt. ‘If not, wear a hat and cover your hair. Sun, chlorine and sea water dries the hair and strips it of moisture.’

Aveda’s Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser removes the build-up of chlorine, salt and product.
