Codroy Valley woman is weight-loss royalty – The Telegram

Marielle Gale lost 80.25 pounds last year through her participation along with TOPS Club and will be named 2015 Newfoundland and Labrador Queen at the organization’s Provincial Recognition Days events on June 3 and 4.

TOPS, which stands for Take Off Pounds Sensibly, selects men and women as “royalty” each year. They are the people who, at the end of the year, have actually officially recorded the largest weight loss from their starting weight regardless of the time taken to reach their goal.

“When I was invited to my very first TOPS meeting, my very first reaction was to say, ‘no way, not yet another one of those silly fad weight loss programs’ I had never been on an actual diet in my life, and that was probably the reason,” Gale said in a press release issued June 1. “However after my friend explained to me exactly what TOPS was about and exactly what it was doing for her, I was intrigued. I went to that very first meeting, closed my eyes, got on the scale, and I’ve never looked back since.”
