CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) A Charlottesville woman is hoping to inspire folks to work out and get healthy, after her own weight loss journey is landing her in the national spotlight.
For fitness instructor Myra Anderson, every day is about getting up and moving.
“I’ve been so motivated by my own fitness,” said Anderson. “I completely, a couple months ago, shifted careers and started to work in a fitness business.”
It’s a stark change from what her life used to be.
“A doctor that saw me suggested to me that I have weight loss surgery,” said Anderson. “I kind of frowned at that idea, but I realized I needed to make a concerted effort to loose my weight.”
It wasn’t just the pounds she was packing on, her size was affecting her health.
“I had also been diagnosed with diabetes and high cholesterol,” said Anderson. “So I was on medication.”
Anderson never did have that surgery, instead she exercised daily and lost 130 pounds on her own.
Now it’s landing her some national attention.
“There is a magazine its called diabetes forecast, it’s a national magazine,” said Anderson. “I’m going to be featured in that, because I actually reversed my diabetes I no longer have to take medication for any diabetes or any cholesterol.”
She will be featured in the magazine next month, but more than the magazine she is trying to bring attention to women’s health here in Charlottesville.
“I feel like I can also encourage other people who’ve been in that same situation,” said Anderson. “That just because you have that diagnosis, that doesn’t mean it’s the end.”
Now she’s turned fitness into a business, its called Inspire Fitness. Anderson teaches group exercise anywhere from churches to Zumba, She also encourages healthy eating saying sometimes lack of nutritional education causes rapid weight gain. She is changing lives one day at a time.
“If I can do it, you can too.” said Anderson.
Anderson’s is looking to bring her new business “Inspire Fitness” to a location near you. If you are interested in learning more about her programs she can be contacted at Inspire Fitness (434) 282-0102 or inspirefitnesscville@yahoo.com.
