Detox facility essential at Sunrise Way rehabilitation – Toowoomba Chronicle

TOOWOOMBA’S rehabilitation centre Sunrise Way is operating at capacity for the funding they have available but they could be doing more.

CEO Wendy Agar said what would be the only detox facility in Toowoomba just lacked the funds to open it.

“It’s imperative to get it going,” she said.

Sunrise Way has been open since 2014 and hosts about15 live-in clients at at time, though it has the capacity for up to 26.

As well as a 16-week rehabilitation service for people over 18, Sunrise Way hosts a transition house to act as a gateway back into the community.

“It’s a safe stepping stone back into the community and we can continue to support them to build new and healthy networks,” she said.

“We work with existing services in the region including the Clubhouse.”

Residents in the transition house also act as success stories for new clients.

“It’s an incredibly difficult process. The individual needs to be ready to commit to it,” she said.

Mrs Agar said one of her long-term goals for Sunrise Way was to have one of the clients who have made it through the program be trained and join the members of staff.

“Sunrise Way is built on a foundation of passion and commitment and love from the community. I’m continually amazed by the generosity of the people in the community.”

The service takes Centrelink supported clients.
