Avant-garde Go Lucky hairstyles Union Daily Times

UNION COUNTY — Hairstyles, make-up, and manicures inspired by Easter and St. Patrick’s Day were part of the recent “In-House Competition” held by the Cosmetology Class at the Union County Career Center.

Cosmetology Instructor Amy Cash said that a total of 28 students competed in the event which was divided into Juniors and Seniors with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each class. Cash said the competition was based on Easter and St. Patrick’s Day with an emphasis on the good fortune associated with those holidays. She said students were encouraged to be as creative as possible in coming up with hairdos, makeup, and manicures for the competition.

“The theme is ‘Go Lucky,’” Cash said. “We based it off of Easter and St. Patrick’s Day. I chose them because when you think of St. Patrick you think of four leaf clovers and being lucky. Also, you think about the rainbow and the pot of gold as lucky. Easter is lucky because you get candy and family time.”

Cash said students were encouraged to be “more avant-garde” with their creations.

“The students had no limits, they could use their imaginations,” Cash said. “They could use color, paint, fake hair and ornamentation.”

Juniors

The winners among the juniors in the competition were:

• 1st Place — Kaitlyn Vinson

• 2nd Place — Danasia Gregory

• 3rd Place — Alyssa Crocker

Seniors

The winners among the seniors in the competition were:

• 1st Place — Shelby Hyatt

• 2nd Place — Abby Gregory

• 3rd Place — Tamika Boler

Cash added that the seniors in her class will take their board exams this year and, when they pass them, will be licensed cosmetologists.
